    3 Simple Steps to Success

In the market today, there are copious amounts of books written on how to succeed in business. It seems that every author has a "formula". We are told that if we follow this "formula", we will succeed in our chosen profession. That's not necessarily true.

I must admit that there are some well written and highly acclaimed books (like
Blaire Borthayre and Richard Templar's masterpieces) and some... well, they are too complicated and filled with information that we don't really need.

I'm the type of person that doesn't waste time with fluff. I want to get to meat of the issue. I want it simple and effective. In fact so effective that I can use it right now. I don't want to take the scenic route to my destination. I don't want it tomorrow. Nor do I want it in five years.

Give it to me. Today. Now!

    This
attitude, while it offends some, has served me well through out the years. It's kept me from accepting filler and garbage from situations and people. After all this is about my success.

    And it's about YOU.

I'm going to give you, my dear readers, the simple, effective, heart of the matter frame work of your success. If you do this, you will succeed.

    1. See your goal.

The secret to success is choosing one goal at a time and focusing all your energy into it at the right moment. It may start by asking yourself what do you want to do? Now, let's keep it realistic. That one question will set off a series of other questions. For example, if I want to learn a new language, it's not enough to want to learn it. Everyone wants something. You have to move towards your goal. That may entail going back to school or simply going to the corner store to purchase language software.

    2. Keep your goal in view.

Do this as if you're watching a good movie. Your focus is your key to your success. When I'm online working, I only accept instant messages from people who are instrumental in helping me reach my goal. Everyone else goes to the back burner until I am done with my work. Is that rude? Absolutely not. When you go to the movie theater, do you like to be disturbed? Of course not. Your absolute focus is on that movie in front of you and you want no distractions. If you allow distractions, you'll miss out on the plot line and end up with half a story. You can apply the same principal to your goal.
Accept no distractions. Your goal is your movie and your eyeballs should never ever look to the left or to the right. Your attention needs to become focused like laser beams. You eat, drink, sleep and talk about your goal. Your attention to your goal should be like a hen brooding over her chicks. You should be like a master sniper. That's how you keep your goal in view.

I cannot emphasize the following enough: Most well meaning people fail at this very point. Be careful.

    3. Keep plugging away until you reach your goal.

In geometry, there is a rule that says the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Keep looking for the straightest path to your goal. You can see your goal, you can focus on your goal. However, if you don't take the straightest possible steps to reach your goal, you'll remain standing there window shopping.

Remember we started this article talking about series of questions? This is the point where that applies.

How do you get from point A to point B? With whom do you need to talk? What information do you need? Where are you going to find it? Do you see the point, my friends?

US President Franklin D. Roosevelt said it this way: "It isn't sufficient just to want - you've got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want."

Fine tune your steps and separate the chaff from the wheat. Yes, please allow some flexibility to make changes in your journey.

We look forward to hearing your story!

    How the Business Model Works

In response to an e-mail sent to TLE recently, I would like to take advantage of this opportunity and turn it into a business lesson for the benefit of all our readers.

A reader asked why did we change the
format? While writing articles on current events is of interest to some, TLE felt that we were repackaging what most blogs and all the media were writing about anyway. Yes, we gave it an edge and it was entertaining. Nevertheless, as a community based blog, TLE strives to give the audience what it wants and needs.

We discovered that there is a lack of financial and relational information directed at the Latino culture. So we put out feelers and simply asked, "What do you need to see at TLE?" The response was overwhelming. As we suspected, our Latino audience wanted to know the "how to's" or the ins and outs of the business culture. Surprisingly, many men and women also wanted to read articles about relationships. In hindsight, Latinos are a very passionate people. Relationships are very important to us, believe it or not.

The bottom line? The Latino Edge delivered.

This blog exists to serve its audience and not the other way around. Yet, we must take into consideration that the majority spoke. There are a few people that loved the old format and we thank you. However, the larger portion of our readers spoke up and let us know what they wanted.

You see, writing about GW's escapades, terrorism and other shenanigans doesn't edify the community's pocket. It isn't going to help in relationships of any kind.

That's why we changed the format.

    We heard and we obeyed.

    Enjoy!

Ladies! See How Easily You Can "Catch Him and Keep Him"!

The editors at The Latino Edge recieved many emails from the the fairer of the sexes. They all had one common thread: we want dating tips for women! Immediately we agreed that this request was quite fair. So we joined forces with dating expert, Christian Carter to bring to you the bleeding edge e-book called "Catch Him And Keep Him". This is the message Christian has for you:

Tons of women do this one thing. And it must leave them feeling awful... I wonder if you do it too? I'm talking about women who hide their true feelings from a man and fear sharing their desire for a closer relationship and for love.

    Ever felt this way?

It's happens when you won't communicate directly with a man about your feelings because you think you'll "scare him away". Unfortunately, you're right... it could scare him away.

The way you talk to a man about a relationship turns out to be THE BIGGEST MISTAKE ANY WOMAN CAN MAKE WITH A MAN.

I'll come back to this giant mistake in just a quick second...

First, I'd like to talk about what I've seen in the dating world as a guy and share a FASCINATING story with you. I've had women communicate their feelings with me in all sorts of different ways from joy to anger to frustration, and I know what each one does to a man (and in a larger context, what communicating this way does to any person in general - man or woman). There's a pattern to the dating experiences that I'd like to share.

THE STORY GOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS...

(Let's pretend I'm the man in this story and you're the woman

You and I meet. We both like each other. (lucky me!) Feelings develop for us both on several levels. (physically, emotionally, socially) You try to be "patient" and not express too many feelings and what you want to play it cool. We have a great "connection", but we never talk about what we want in our future around dating, a relationship or marriage. Time goes by and things are great for us.

Eventually, you begin to see that you're not getting what you want from me in the relationship.

You want more, but you're scared of talking to me about it because you don't know where I'm at. You're scared because I've talked to you about all the bad experiences I've had with women in the past. And sometimes I even make negative remarks about women and their emotions. You don't want to ruin the good things we have going and rock the boat, but in the back of your mind you know that you'll want to deal with the negative emotions that are slowly but surely building in your mind.

Then as I start to see us growing closer, I begin to use my past issues to tell you that I'm not looking for much more than what we have right now. So you don't say anything to me directly to communicate what's going on for you and your feelings. And of course, being a normal guy, I don't say anything either. (Of course, I'm a man!)

You become frustrated and confused that I'm not acting how I used to act. Things begin to change with the way I treat you. I don't pay as much attention to you anymore. I don't surprise you or bring you flowers anymore. I'm tired everyday after work and just want to watch TV when I get home. I call you less frequently. I don't initiate sex as much anymore. You even consider that I could be seeing someone else. And after a few months - I've become distant.

    So what happens next?

You decide you're not happy with where things are and it's time to have a talk about where we're at. But you're SCARED of expressing your feelings about what you want, so you let things build up inside you until you begin to let your frustrations with me show.

And to wrap the story up...

You make THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU CAN MAKE WITH A MAN...

You start a conversation about the relationship and then you "let me have it"(you get upset and lose your cool with me)! All your desires, fears, frustrations and dreams that you've been holding inside away from me all pour out in one big emotional explosion...

This "Big Mistake" can take the form of arguing and yelling, but not exclusively. Sometimes it's just extreme intensity, perhaps tears.

    It might include:

    - Complaining about the current state of the relationship
    - Talking about the things he does wrong with you
    - Showing your frustrations about what you feel is missing
    - Becoming upset that he doesn't feel how you'd like him to feel
    - Bringing up past issues, arguments or disappointments

But it always creates a lot of emotional tension and "drama". Especially in the guys mind. This is THE LAST THING you want to do with a man if you want to get some positive result with him. That tension that's created stays with him, and he NEVER forgets it. In his mind, he now thinks of you as "hysterical" and full of issues. His mind defines you by what he saw in your behavior, and it scares him. Yep, I know it's not fair, but it's the man's weird and twisted reality...

I've heard hundreds, maybe thousands, of men talk about this exact perception of a woman and how they fear being with a woman who they think will make this giant mistake. Yeah, I know... it's immature, selfish and not fair of the man, but it's the reality of the situation that lots of women end up in with men.

So how do you avoid this?

I'll tell you how in THREE EASY STEPS.

    1. You Need To Understand What's Going On Inside The Mind Of Your Man.

Let me tell it to you straight, as a man... Women secretly believe that their connection with a man will "naturally" turn into something deeper without any communication taking place. Kind of like it's the unspoken truth about what's going on. Honestly, this isn't how it works for us men.

If you're "assuming" you have a relationship, and that he feels like you do, you're wrong. Men don't assume that a connection, being together, spending quality time and all the rest means they're in a committed relationship. Some men do, but not most.

For a man to know he's in a committed relationship, and understand the things YOU want in that relationship, YOU have to communicate with him in CLEAR AND DIRECT terms. Yeah, that's right. You have to put yourself out there and be vulnerable.

    Scary!

But I hear lots of women think that other women are just lucky to have found such a great guy. And while there are some men who are more equipped and ready for a healthy situation with a woman, it's NOT luck that women in great relationships have found a way to communicate with their guy. That's right, they've taken time to find the right information and to learn to integrate a certain way of communicating into their thinking and behavior. It's not easy, but there's help.

    2. You Need To Understand What Causes You To Make "The Big Mistake"

EVERYONE wants to have THEIR needs met first. It's basic human nature. But being able to delay your gratification is an AMAZING thing to develop in your life (in every part of your life!).

Most people (men and women) want to talk, talk, talk about what THEY think and what THEY want. The root of this problem basically boils down to needs that are unmet. So making "The Big Mistake" is really all about being driven by your unmet needs and desires and solely focusing on what YOU want the relationship to be, without honestly and critically considering the man's perspective, his emotional state, his communication skills and where he's coming from at the same time.

When you do this with a man, you are subconsciously telling him that you're more interested in your feelings and what YOU want than you are in his feelings and what he wants. And men can read and pick up on women who do this instantly. I see a form of this "Big Mistake" communication all the time in business by the way.

Some business professionals are the worst at this self absorbed "need" oriented communication. Like when someone calls me who wants to get something from me or sell me something and they're not very experienced or polished at it.

The first thing I pick up on is their selfish agenda... and it instantly puts me on the defensive.

But if they've done their "homework" on me and what I'm looking for, and not what THEY WANT from me, when they talk it changes the whole situation the second they show me they've thought about what I want. It's very simple but extremely powerful. So let's take this concept directly back to communicating with men.

It might sound cliche, but you've got to learn to listen and understand where he's at and where he's coming from. This cliche is a around for a reason.

    It works.

Patience, empathy and understanding are the first steps towards creating the relationship you dream about. But you've got to be careful to not become the woman who gives him EVERYTHING and gets walked on. Use your common sense and intuition to safeguard yourself - I know that your female perceptive abilities aren't used nearly enough, so put these strong tools to good use.

    3. How To Avoid Making The Big Mistake.

Let me give you a vital piece of information when dealing with men. Men are CLUELESS when it comes to identifying the things that are "obvious" to women in dating and relationships. I would know. It's taken me ten years to begin to understand these things for myself - and I spend a LOT of time thinking about it.

Sorry though, I'm "spoken for"...(Oh Please, get over yourself Christian!!) Ok, enough self-indulgent humor, back to you. So we know men are AWFUL at initiating and participating in conversations about deep emotions and relationships.

Sorry to break the bad news, but it's almost always up to you to make this communication happen.

It's important to remember to approach the entire conversation from the perspective of talking about what you want AND what he wants. If you can make a guy feel like you put his feelings and needs a priority in this conversation, and always consider what he wants, I promise he will LOVE YOU for it!

There's no rule that says you can't consider another persons opinions and feelings first in order to get what you want. In fact, a key goal in negotiating is to let the other person talk first.

When you get to listen first, you ALWAYS have the advantage. You know exactly what the other person wants... and knowledge is influence and power. I'm not saying you need to take on hard-core negotiating here with a man, but some of the same rules and principles about people and psychology apply.

When you talk to a man from a positive place of listening first, he will be 10,000 times more receptive to what you have to say and what you want once you bring it up than if you approach him from a place of feeling hurt, communicate need and projecting fear and anxiety.

Try this instead. Ask a positive question or give a positive statement such as, "Honey, I was thinking today that I was happy to be with you." It might sound submissive, corny or difficult to say to someone you're having a tough time with, but think about it. If you're going through all the trouble to worry so much about the future with this person, this is already what you're thinking.

You might want to check out what could be the world's best collection of ideas, strategies, insights and research on the subject of how to avoid the Big Mistakes, and other big mistakes in my e-book, "Catch Him And Keep Him". It's full off specific ways to communicate with a man that will instantly amplify the attraction he feels for you and help move things quickly and smoothly from "casual" to "committed" in no time flat. I've spent the better part of the last year making sure my e-book will give you REAL WORLD ANSWERS and solutions to the things you're dealing with when it comes to men.

5 Important Things You Should Know About Your Credit Report

Latinos, if you want to be successful financially, your credit report is the second most important tool in your arsenal. A good credit report opens doors to opportunities others do not have, such as getting a small business loan.

Detailed below is an explanation of what is in your credit report. Make sure it's accurate and protect it like gold.

    1. Personal Information Section: names, surnames, known aliases, Social Security number, date of birth, where have you lived, your last known address, place of work, name of your spouse, judicial cases and any public document, like bankruptcy and mortgage execution (foreclosure).

This information tell a creditor about your character and habits. For example:

If you change your residence every 6 months, you do not show stability; if you change work constantly, that can compromise your capacity to pay accounts.

To avoid discrepancies in your file, try to maintain constancy; for example, if use your maiden name, do not fill applications of credit with another name, or vice versa.

    2. Credit Accounts Information: all types of mortgages, personal loans or your rotating accounts such as credit cards.
Reported are: which are active and which are closed, the amount you owe on each one, total of the minimum payment, if you have delayed in your payments, and how many times you've been late in making payments

The best way to take care of your credit is to pay your accounts on time.

The delayed payments give you very bad credit reference. In the calculation of your credit score, the number of late payments have carry a great weight. It represents 35% of your overall score.

If you have difficulties paying on time, call your creditor and negotiate a new payment schedule. That way you will not get penalized for late payments. You will avoid late fees and you will avoid a negative blot in your credit report.

    3. Credit Inquiries: Reports all businesses that have requested information on your credit, whether you have applied for a specific credit card or inquiries if you're seeking an to rent an apartment.

It provides details on businesses that have investigated your record. The details include names, addresses, dates and reasons for the inquiries. Many requests for new credits cards, for example, most likely to portray you as an avid user of credit cards. You could appear as a credit risk if all those credit card requests were approved.

    4. Credit Score: This number, that usually goes between the 350 and the 850, is a mathematical representation of the quality of your credit, based on standard criteria. It utilizes your accumulated data. A higher credit score represents a good credit quality. This is very important because with a higher credit score, the lenders view you less of a credit risk.

It is possible that your score vary among the three main credit bureaus. It is possible that information in one report is not on the other two reports. So check all three bureaus for accuracy and consistency

This score also is known like FICO Score because it was designed by Fair Isaac & Co. at the end of the 1950's. Since then is the criteria creditors use to evaluate the credit quality of an individual.

The exact formula of how this score is calculated is not public information. The Federal Trade Commission, the entity responsible for watching for the rights of the consumers in the United States considers this disposition as acceptable.

You can ask for a free copy of your credit report from the big three credit reporting agencies:
Experian, Equifax and Trans Union. They are subject to the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

We will cover how to fix inaccuracies in the next article.

    Don't miss it!

UPDATE: Greg Souther, owner of Greg Souther Consulting and Seminars, advised TLE that "... credit reports do not contain jail sentences or if you have been turned down for insurance". Thanks Greg for the heads up!

Who Else Wants a Higher Paying Job? 10 Sure-Fire Ways to Ace the Interview!

You have your polished resume. Your credentials are superb. Your talents fit the job description like a cozy glove. What can go wrong?

    Almost everything.

We all make errors. Nevertheless, what will set you head and shoulders above your competition is recognizing the blunders... and preparing ahead of time. Here are 10 sure-fire ways to ace your dream job.

    1. Appearance:

Most people dress from the "waist-up". They have the perfect oxford button-down shirt, the perfect silk tie from Saks Fifth Avenue, and the blazer is razor sharp. However, they forget to polish their shoes to a mirror shine and iron the wrinkles out of their pants! Make sure your belt and socks match the color of your shoes, i.e., black shoes, black socks, black belt. This tells your interviewer that you pay attention to detail. Many times, I have observed interviewers look at my shoes when greeting me. Make sure they are always, always polished.

Research how you can better your appearance. Small things like clean manicured nails make all the difference in the world.

    2. Don't Be Arrogant:

Ask any woman what turns her off the quickest during a date. Most will say that arrogance is a huge turn off. In an interview, the same principal applies. You may be the best candidate they have. If you come across as a insufferable snob, you will lose. To an interviewer, arrogance says, "I am a good talker but I cannot deliver what you need." Confidence, though, will tell the same interviewer that you have what it takes to do the job time after time. Confidence projects the ability to be a team player.

Learn the fine line between arrogance and confidence. Apply it to your everyday dealing and it will open treasured doors for you.

    3. Don't Overemphasize Your Skill Set:

We have worked hard to educate ourselves. We have the pedigrees to prove it. And we want to showcase them in the interview. That is a fatal mistake. What interviewers want to know is what can you do for the company?

Learn to interweave your skill set with the company's needs. That way you come across as someone who is interested in adding to the company's success. You do not want to come across as someone who only wants to be a selfish superstar homerun hitter.

    4. Be Prepared:

With all the information available on the Internet, there is not one solid reason you should be unprepared for the interview. This means you need to do in-depth research about the company. Passing knowledge of the company tells the interviewer you are not really interested in the job. Ok, that may be untrue. One thing is feeling excited about the job prospect. It is totally another issue to show it.

I had an interview once and I was going blind. I did not know anything about my interviewers. However, I did my in-depth research including the previous day’s stock closing. When I took this paper out of my attache case, an older gentleman reached over, took it into his hands and started reading. He started smiling wide.
He was the owner of the company.

    Guess who got the job?

    Do your research.

    5. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate!

Interviewers LOVE to ask open ended questions. And we give them short answers. Bad form! Interviewers want to know how well you can communicate with other people. If you can shine in your
verbal skills while under pressure, they will see that you will be an asset to the team in everyday dealings with other high profile VIPs and your co-workers. People who do not communicate have a rough time in a team setting.

And no one wants to work with a crab.

    6. Show Interest:

What is the toughest question in any interview? You got it.

    "Do you have any questions?"

If you say no, you will show lack of interest. Think about it. When you go on a date, do you ask questions about your date? Sure you do. Why? Because you are interested. But if you show lack of interest by not asking questions, I can assure you will not have a second date.

People love talking about themselves, about their jobs and their talents. This is especially true when the interview has a high profile position within the company. Take full advantage of that. Make them spend time telling you about themselves. They will forget about the candidate sitting outside. You take that time away from your competition. You will, in your interviewer's eyes, look like the greatest conversationalist on the planet. And all you did was show interest.

Ask about the company's industry, competitors or business problems facing the firm at the moment. And watch them open up to you like long lost friends.

If you and I were competing for the same position, this is the exact point where I would
cut your throat. This is about me getting the job, not you. Understood? Good.

    7. Do Not Ask About Perks

This is simple. Stay away from "what is in it for me" questions. You want to give the sincere impression that you are there for the company and not the company for you. Let the interviewer tell you about the perks and benefits.

    8. Be Formal

Treat an interview like a business meeting. Business is business. It is formal and serious. Business is about making money. And money talks. This is not the time to be casual and juggle bananas like a circus monkey. The interview wants to know if you have what it takes to make the company money. Even in comedy, it is said that "comedy is a serious business".

    9. Focus on the Positive:

The interview is not a therapy session. You ought to have a shining positive effect on your interviewers. Talk about what you learned in your previous position. Talk about your team and bosses in a good light. It shows the interviewer that no matter what happens, you will not bad mouth them or the company. And they will remember you fondly.

    10. Close the Deal

Tell the interviewer how much you would love join the company. Ask what the next step in the interview process will entail? Sell yourself. Show interest and plant a subconscious seed in the interviewer's mind that you believe you are the person for the job.

If you forget to do this, they will forget you.

    Are Hispanics Just Remarkable Entertainers?

New York City will host, for the first time, the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards which will air live on the Univision Television Network on Thursday, November 2, at 8pm Eastern - 7pm Central. New York City is home to many famous Latino stars past and present: Tito Puente, Los Panchos, Cuban salsa legend, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Fania Records Founder and singer, Johnny Pacheco, Yomo Toro, Eddie Palmieri, Hector Lavoe, Thalia, Placido Domingo, Johnny Rivera and Marc Anthony, to name just a few.

Nevertheless, this writer wonders how many in America view Latinos as anything more than entertainers? When we read and hear about Latinos in the news, often it involves illegal immigrants, political scandals, drug raids, hustlers, poverty and entertainment. I find this quite unfair and detrimental to the Latino image globally.

Latinos/Hispanics are not just fodder for admission tickets. We have a
legacy of Latino businessmen and women, politicians, scientists, activists and heroes as well. They need to be celebrated, admired and followed equally as our distinguished Latino entertainers.

    They are the
shining example for our future generations.

    Double Your Dating Successfully!

We at The Latino Edge, in our quest to provide our dear readers powerful tools to enrich their lives, recently discovered a great book called Double Your Dating by David DeAngelo. In our opinion, it's the best place for a guy to start who wants to become more successful with women and dating.

We're really excited about it, because these days it's definitely not easy for a guy to find dating advice that works.

So what makes this book different than everything else out there?

    Well, mainly David DeAngelo himself.

You see, David D. is a smart, educated regular guy. A regular guy who for the longest time, like so many others, couldn't figure out why he didn't have the success with women he wanted.

Several years ago, he made the decision in his life to do whatever it takes to get this whole "dating" thing down, no matter what the cost.

David read everything he could find about women and dating, and was disappointed to discover that for the most part, there was no quality information available for guys like him who wanted to learn.

Frustrated but determined, David decided to go straight to the source. Not to the women themselves... After hearing so many women say they wanted a "nice guy", then turn around and complain about their jerk boyfriends (who they had obviously chosen over many nice guys like him), he was convinced that even women themselves weren't exactly sure of what they wanted in a man.

David sought out the few guys he knew who were unbelievably successful with women. You know, the guys in high school that you never stopped hearing about. He asked around and found more and more of these naturals, and sat down and picked their brains for every last piece of information he could dig up.

He was surprised to find that many of these guys weren't rich or handsome. In fact, several of them were down right broke and ugly! But they definitely had some kind of "power" that other guys didn't, and after hanging out with these guys for a while, David started to figure out exactly what it was.

It took some time, but before long David himself was getting women like crazy. His friends begged him to let them in on his secret... And sure enough... It worked for them too! David had put together a complete system for meeting and dating women that any guy could use. They convinced him that he had to write a book, and soon "Double Your Dating" was born.

In his book, David explains his step-by-step process for meeting and attracting women. Once you know it and master it, you can attract any woman you want, any time you want. And you don't have to be rich or handsome to do it.

David has finally unraveled the "bad boy" mystery and explains exactly why some guys "get all the chicks". More importantly, he explains how to develop the traits in yourself that drive women wild, and why you don't have to be a bad boy or a jerk to be successful with women.

There are simple things that you can do to separate yourself from 99% of the other guys out there, and David spells them out for you in plain English. He covers specific strategies and techniques for starting conversations with women, getting their phone numbers and email addresses, inexpensive and cheap date ideas, and how to take things to a "physical" level smoothly and easily.

The techniques in the book are practical and easy to use. There is nothing you will have to memorize or study. You can start using what you learn right away.

The Latino Edge really cannot recommend this book enough. Double Your Dating is an absolute must read for any man, no matter where you're at in the dating game.

    Can You Handle Success?

The wise and powerful Sir Winston Churchill eloquently said, "The price of greatness is responsibility."

Oh! The halls of Fortune are filled with the groans and tears of the "had it and lost".

We all want success. Better yet, we want what we think is success. Success for you is not the same deal for me. I want to be richer than Bill Gates. I figure if a geek like him can become a billionaire, as geek like me can become one too. Too lofty, you say? Not on your life. Why fish for guppies when you can fish for great whites?

Yet, there's one gaping hole in our collective bag of goodies. All the pixie dust in Neverland won't matter if we don't learn one monumental lesson. We need to learn how to handle success when it comes.

You need to take this to heart. I'll tell you why.

Some people rise like a demon chased rocket - then fall from the heavens like a screaming millstone. It's one thing to win the lottery. It's quite another to still be a millionaire one year later. You can get the opportunity of a life time and lose it forever the next day. You can own a house (finally) and lose it in foreclosure 18 months down the line. Guys, you finally have the woman of your dreams. She agrees to marry you. Oh my God! Heaven on earth! Brother let me tell you something right quick. If you fail to take care of her and be responsive to her needs, someone else is on the sidelines waiting to take your place. And they will. You let it happen. You will be crying in your beer, listening to sloppy sad songs at some roach infested dive while he keeps her secure and warm. That's reality.

HOWEVER, we can learn how to achieve success... and keep it for the rest of our days. I'm not saying it sure fire. Nothing is 100% in the bag. This is life, my friends. In life, pooty happens. Right? Of course. But, if we learn the necessary skills to keep our hard and painfully earned success, pooty happens less frequently in our lives.

Say no to pooty. Keep your piece of cake and eat it too.

    Don't You DARE Settle!

What are you willing to do to punch through and get what's rightfully yours? Have you set your mind to live a mediocre life? What do you do with your free time? Get high? Get drunk after doing your 70 hours a week at a concentration type factory job? Is that your future? Do you watch from the sidelines as your goals and dreams are lived by others?

That's not me. That's not what I want out my life. Don't get me wrong, folks. There's no substitution for hard work, dedication, persistence and outright sagaciousness. You have to make up your mind to be stubborn and bullish to make your dreams a reality. I don't care if you want to be the next rock star or the first female president. All it takes is the belief in yourself, the chutzpah to stand alone when no one else cares if you live or die and the will to do what it takes.

Family and friends do not understand why I spend so many hours in front of this ragged thing called my PC. But that's ok. They don't need to understand. I understand. That's all that matters. It takes practice, practice, practice, and more practice to be awesome. I can sleep and eat dirt all my life or I can use my time wisely and effectively on my way to my goals.

Don't ever let anyone cheat YOU out of YOUR life. It was given to you for a reason and it is OK to enjoy it to the fullest. You will always find someone who will tell you, "Don't do this. You will not make it." They will tell you that you are being selfish. They will tell you that loving yourself is wrong. That is a pathetic lie. It is absolutely not true. There is nothing wrong with loving yourself as long as the end result is positive one for you. Remember this is not about anyone else but you. You have to be happy with yourself. And if you are not, then maybe you are hanging out with the wrong people. Tell them to get lost!

Never, ever let anyone convince you to settle for less than your full potential. Don't you dare settle! If you have settled, it's not too late to rectify it.

You may lose friends. Heck, your family may come against you. In all likelihood they will. It doesn't matter. This is your life were talking about. It's not your husband's life. It's not your wife's life. It's not your mother or father's life, or anyone else you can think of. You deserve the absolute best of yourself for yourself. If it takes stepping on some toes, then step on them and make it count!

Remember this, when you go to your grave, (and that day will come for us all), you will be the only one that's going in that hole. No one else is going in with you. Why should you live life by someone else's terms?

When you wake in the morning, what is the first thought that comes to mind? Are you happy you are alive? Or do you bemoan the thought of another miserable day? When you look in the mirror, are you happy with what you see? I am not talking about physical attributes. I am talking about the real you. Let me ask again. Do you like what you see?

If your answer is a resounding "NO!" then it's time for a radical make over. You do not have to live another miserable day. Your outlook about yourself can change for the better. However, you need to make a decision. Do you want to change? Do you want to be happy? Do you want to smile again? It's not an impossible dream. It can be yours. Today. Right now.

Most people do not like to be honest, even if brutal honesty would save their lives. Shakespeare once wrote, This above all: to thine own self be true. No more honest and accurate words have been written apart from the Bible. If we cannot be true to ourselves, how can we be open to groundbreaking, earth shattering prodigiousness in our lives? The sad reality is that most people settle and accept garbage into their lives because they are not true to themselves. They accept whatever or whoever comes their way because they do not believe in themselves, in their talents and the possibility that they too can be accomplished and happy.

No matter where you are at in your life, no matter what your situation, as long as there is life within your body, you can be the very person you've dreamed. Finally, that secret list of goals you've had tucked away for so long can be achieved!

The secret, my attractive and powerful friends, lies within
    us.

    Gene Simmons: Business Mastermind

Many people have read millions of books on business and marketing and for the most part these "how to" books don't work. Before Gene Simmons, the blood spitting, fire breathing co-founder and bassist of the legendary rock band, KISS said it, I knew it. We don't see many millionaires or billionaires saying, "I'm a rich man today because I followed "20 Ways To Strike it Rich by Making Rice and Beans".

However, Mr. Simmons has very practical advise that actually does work! What's the difference?
    Watch it for yourself.

Then include it in your arsenal.

Power is Won (or Lost) at the Tip of Your Tongue

Learning how to be an awesome and dynamic public speaker not only can make you extremely interesting to others, it can also propel you into the stratosphere of your chosen profession. People will notice, especially upper management. Believe me, words get around. But especially about the most interesting person on the planet... you.

Public speaking generates a sensation of agony as large as the fear of losing your life. Habitually, when confronted with an audience, we desperately want to find a way out and hide under a rock.

The reason is simple: you're afraid of the questions asked when you're in a group, insecurities invade your mind when you have to speak in front of a group of four people or more, or your shyness freezes your tongue solid because although you know exactly how to answer, you don't know how to pronounce it past your teeth.

These types of situations lead a group of men in 1924 to create the
Toastmaster Club. It is a non profit organization founded in California, whose principal thrust was to find a solution for each one of the abovementioned conflicts. These conflicts blocks personal advancement and impede the personal expression in the public arena.

The development of the Toastmaster Club's ideal of helping others to speak effectively grew at such a rapid pace that today, in only the metropolitan area of New York and New Jersey alone, exists over 200 conversational clubs affiliated with Toastmaster International.

"This is a laboratory", said Julian Hernandez, founder of the most recent addition in
Union City, New Jersey. "My objective is for people that speak English in this zone and that want a friendly medium to practice their conversational skills, to have a space to practice. They can grow beyond their limitations within a comfortable ambiance."

Toastmaster is an educational organization that functions at the global level. It's programs have also been successfully implemented in jails and rehabilitation centers for people with mental impediments. The programs emphasize oral communication and leadership.

The system introduces people to the immensely important skill of self discipline. It permits the practitioner of the oral communication arts to study text books, audio and video sent by the club. Later, the disciple of the art of communication can put into practice his or her studies within a group.

"Basically, it is designed to enhance a person's oral communication. Many people fear public speaking. Many who speak English as a second language (and also as a first language) are intimidated when speaking in front of an audience", said Hernandez.

    Function

"Things like conducting a seminar, workshops, lead a business meeting, or making a sale... even simply talking on the phone with another person that expresses himself quite well in English, intimidate people. This is the reason why we have formed clubs such as this one."

Club members learn in a group setting the skills that are normal in everyday life. A typical club has 20 to 30 members that meet once a week for an hour. This allows each associate to participate.

The theme of these meetings are usually set around small business sessions. This allows for the participants to acquire the basic understanding of lingual procedures. Each of the participants act out a role in which they are evaluated. The members are asked to improvise for two to three minutes, intergrating what they have learned from their previous studies into the scenario. Each are then evaluated on this and on their progress. The evaluations are oral and minutes later a member of an advanced level delivers the results.

Another paramount part of these meetings is based on the participation of all members responding to questions within two minutes. This generates the understanding of various themes and topics that enlarges the participants' cultural level.

For more information, you can call 1-800-9WE-SPEAK or go to the Toastmaster Club's
website. It is crucial for us in the Hispanic/Latino community to make the valuable decision to better our verbal communication.

There is a saying: "The one that silences offers" and almost always what is offered goes against the one that silences. Even in Proverbs 18:20 -21 of the Good Book advises: "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."

This is main thrust of The Latino Edge: to give information that empowers and edifies the Hispanic community at large to make right decisions and to give hope and life to our future generations. Two of the necessary tools available to all Hispanics who have the gumption to stand up and stand out is the power of the English language and its proper and powerful use.

Business demagoges advise novices and veterans to "dress to impress". We believe that "speaking to impress" is just as critical. It balances the inner you with the outer you. When that happens, Latino, the universe is the limit.

    Echa pa'lante!

New Cancer Causing Near Panic in European Nations

All nations, including the extremely tolerant Belgians are taking notice. It's the reemergence of an old devil, once thought subdued, that threatens the very fabric of civilized life. It's the worm that burrows in the brain of reason. It's a deadly virus that paralyses highly evolved societies and causes them to cower in ice cold fear.

No, my dear readers, Europe cannot continue to ignore this parasite called Islam and hope to remain untouched.

How to Start Your Small Business: It's Easier Than You Think!

Starting your own business will be an emotional adventure with many rewards. However, you need to be prepared and you should understand essential factors. If you are not familiar with the process of starting a new business, we recommend with the following steps:

    A Business Plan:

A plan defines your business with precision, identifies your goals, and serves as the curriculum of your company. There are certain elements that interrogate into a business plan. For example: the purpose of your business, description, demographics, competition, operational procedures, personnel, insurances, financial information, loan solicitation, balance point analysis, and profit projection models. The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) offers help to edit your business plan online.

    Determine Your Type of Business

One of the first decisions that you must make as a business owner is how to build your company's infrastructure. This decision will have long range implications, so we recommend to you, dear reader, to consult with an accountant and a corporate lawyer. They will help you pick the type of business most beneficial for you.

    Sole Ownership

The great majority of small businesses are started with only one owner. These companies are in the hands of one person who normally is responsible for day-to-day operations.

Pros: Sole ownership is the simplest and cheapest way to possess and organize a business venture. You will have total control; possess all the profits generated by your business. The profits will directly flow towards the declarations of personal taxes. If you desire, it will be easy to dissolve your business.

Cons: You will be responsible to cover all your costs. You will have the legal obligation to pay all debts incurred. You will put at risk all personal and business valuables. You can be at a disadvantage in gathering funds. More times than not you will be limited to using your personal savings or making individual loans.

    Partnerships

In a partnership, two or more people share the ownership of only one business. The law does not distinguish between the business entity and it's owners.

Pros: The business venture will be easier to establish. However, it is necessary to invest time in the establishment of a contract between the owners of the business. It is also easier to gather funding. The profits flow directly to the tax declarations of each of the partners.

Cons: All partners are individually and collectively responsible for the actions of the other partners within the entity. All profits should be shared by other partners. All decisions are made by the collective partnership; there will be the probability of disagreement with the day to day operation of the business. In fact, count on it.

There are different types of partnerships to be considered. They are: General Partnerships, Limited Partnership, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) and Joint Ventures.

    Corporations

A corporation is regulated by the laws of the state in which it's home office resides. It is considered a non-human entity, separate and apart from it's owners. In this business model, the corporations are called shareholders. There must be one shareholder. However, there is no upper limit in how many shareholders own the corporation.

Pros: The shareholders have a limited responsibility with respect of debts incurred and judgments made against the corporation. The shareholders are only responsible for their stock investments of the company. Shareholders can create more capital through the sale of their stocks.

Cons: It requires more time and finances compared with the other business models discussed. Corporations are supervised and subject to the entity's established norms. The incorporation of a company can be subject to the increase of tax debt to local, state, and federal government agencies.

There are different types of corporations to be considered. They are: Subchapter S-Corporation, Subchapter C-Corporation and Limited Liability Company (LLC).

    Registering Your Business Name

Before you start a business, you should decide what your venture will be called? The name of your business is one of its most important assets. You should register the name to prevent it's accidental use by another entity. You may have to file for trademark protection at the state and federal level, if appropriate. Click here for more details.

    Minority Ownership

Your chances of a successful start and development of your small business are increased if you are a member of a minority. More so for a Hispanic small business owner. Contact SCORE at (800) 643-0245 or visit their website to take advantage of their small business counselor/advisor programs. SCORE also offers seminars and workshops focused on starting small businesses and maintaining it within your county

    Cuban Missile Crisis Venezuelan Style

Have you wondered why Iran would politically and financially partner with Venezuela, a socialist country? You may immediately respond that these two rogue nations share a common enemy: America. You would be right on the money. After all, my enemy's enemy is my friend, no?

Let's take this to the next level.

Remember the Cuban Missile Crisis in the sixties? That is the scenario being played out in Venezuela right now. Iran is providing Venezuela with the oil drilling equipment, money and perhaps, nuclear technology. I can assure you Iran wants something in return. Nothing is free.

We're thinking a missile base, perhaps?

It is just that much easier to launch a nuke into the US from Venezuela than it is from Iran.

That theory is certainly reasonable. Especially since Chavez learned everything he knows from Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

The Latino Edge believes this alliance is cause for concern for all Americans. Don't you?

Islam's Mind-numbing Hypocrisy Knows No Bounds!

Somebody help me! As a fairly open-minded person, I try to look at both sides of the coin on every issue. But my rusty brain cogs are smoking and I am on the verge of blowing a gasket! OH GAWD! I think I am beginning to hear voices!

Followers of the Islamic faith are up in arms over Pope Benedict's QUOTING A HISTORICAL FIGURE about the use of violence to promote Islam and punish kafirs.

And how exactly are Muslims protesting globally? I am glad you asked. Let me oblige you, my dear readers, by indulging in some quoting of my own. Now read this veeeeeeery carefully:

"You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism when God's rule is established governing all people and nations..."

    Now pick up your jaw.

So I went a'hunting for some facts. Is the Pope wrong? Are we really hearing from extremists in the Islam faith? Is this just over blown huh-bub?

Ahhhh... no. For in the Qu'ran, it states the following:

Fight those who do not believe in Allah And the Jews say Ezra is the son of God; and the Christians say Christ is the son of God; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; Allah's curse be on them; how they are turned away! Koran 9:29-30

Believers must fight for Allah. They must kill and be killed , and are bound to do so by the Torah, Gospel, and Quran. But Allah will reward them for it. 9:111

Kill disbelievers wherever you find them. If they attack you, then kill them. Such is the reward of disbelievers. (But if they desist in their unbelief, then don't kill them.) 2:191-2

And to think all those protesters worked so hard to prove the Pope right.

    Opps!

Fortune 500 Companies Duel for Hispanic Professionals

There is a true battle to obtain qualified personnel, especially Hispanics with masters or doctorate degrees, said David Bruno, co-owner of DHR International, out of Scottsdale, Arizona.

The competition between Fortune 500 companies to contract both bilingual and bicultural executives makes more and more industries depend on recruiting companies such as Bruno's to fill the demand.

Many times we receive calls from companies demanding the best and they also be Hispanic candidates, said Bruno. Out of 250 candidates, perhaps only 20 are of Hispanic origin, he continued.

He indicated that because of the enormous Hispanic population growth in the entire United States, companies realized that it isn't enough to simply translate an English language ad into Spanish. It requires a true understanding of the Hispanic culture and language to reach the Hispanic market, Bruno clarified. In other words, it has nothing to do with political quotas or Affirmative Action.

According to the Census Bureau, Hispanics are the majority minority in places like Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. Latinos are also the largest in population growth. These numbers strongly rallies the interests of companies large and small, to demand Hispanic professionals, said Bruno to The Latino Edge.

It is calculated that Hispanics in the United States have in their collective possession more than $700 million in buying power. That buying power predicted to grow substantially yearly. And so will the need for Hispanic professionals.

From one to ten, with ten signifying the greatest demand, I believe the demand for Hispanic professionals reaches a seven or eight in the American business landscape, Bruno finalized.

English philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon said Knowledge is power. Here is the open invitation by America for Hispanics to take advantage to educate themselves , to harness the powerful Hispanic market and to make it work for us and our families for generations to come.

But remember, we must walk through that door before we see any positive results in our lives. Here is the opportunity to go from I wish I was somebody to I am somebody.

I suggest we take it and make it ours.

    ¡Que viva la raza Latina!

Muslim Sect Maims Its Own Children in Barbaric Ritual!

This video speaks for itself of the "peacefulness" of Islam.

Can you imagine doing this to your own children?

Parents are the same all over, aren't they? They just can't resist taking videos of their kids with pasta, cake, jello or blood all over their faces.

To the critics , before you cry intolerance, I direct your attention to Exhibit A: real world violence toward children for fanatical purposes.

Senator Clinton, you're correct. It takes a village... of maniacs to raise a muslim child. It just so happens that in America, it's called child abuse.

    Heaven help us.

Warning: this video contains images of blood, violence, and the deliberate scalp (head) cutting of babies and children. Not for the viewing of the fragile in nature or children. Please forgive us, but the truth must be told. **

** A hat tip to Jose Bernal who pointed this horrific video out to The Latino Edge.

    Getting the Drop on Islam

We want to read stories that fit our existing world views, whether those views are accurate or not. And we want to satisfy our emotional needs, because the bottom line is that's where we all seek happiness and gratification.

As human beings, we want to know that our world remains consistent. We like the status quo. Once we achieve the level of happiness we think we deserve, we regard with contempt anything or anyone that brings change to our created world. And we will lie to ourselves. We blind ourselves to those events which interrupt and invade our view of reality.

Ironically, we also want to read about those things that will help us make good decisions in our complex world.

Excellent writers are harbingers. We point out the coming disastrous events on the horizon. We writers want people to be informed. We call our readership to be prepared and take action.

Since 9/11, the world has been living like the proverbial cat trapped in a rocking chair factory. We want to be safe. We think we are safe. We will even lie to ourselves to feel secure. But in our hearts of hearts, we know we are not safe.

Each day since 9/11, names like Osama, Saddam and Islam have become as common as Elvis and The Beatles. To most people, that's a scary thought. It indicates a change in direction. It signals a violent toss out of their collective comfort zones. Personally, I don't like it one bit.

While this is the reality of our times, we need not to be caught unaware.

You ever wonder what Islam is really about? How is it that Arab-Americans who identify themselves as Muslim insist they are part of a peaceful religion, while we have witnessed that in many parts of the world, Islam is anything but peaceful? The fact is that many Arab-Americans who identify themselves as Muslim are peaceful... and secular.

Islam and it's true followers are not peaceful. It's a very warlike religion, piting itself against all kafirs or infidels. It will not rest until they convert all to Islam... or exterminate all non-believers through terrorism.

You see, Muslim-extremists don't care about the American, British or even Middle Eastern dream. They don't care about your children, spouse or family. All they care is what they think what the world at large should be... Allah World.

Don't these Muslim-extremists remind you of Hitler's Nazis, Mussolini's facist regime, Idi Amin, and even the American Klu Klux Klan? Folks, what exactly did we do then? We fought back with good information, right decision and decisive action... and we won.

Here's a good start... good information on an enemy hell-bent on destroying the rest of the world.

US Airline Imports Dynamite on Jet

A stick of dynamite was found in the baggage of an American college student today in Houston, Texas. Incredibly, the explosive was allowed on the Continental Airline jet plane carrying 173 passengers coming in from Argentina. And while ICE, FBI and other federal agencies did an outstanding job of finding the explosive without lost of life and property, this writer finds a glaring hole that is probably being overlooked or mentioned in hushed tones:

Let's forget security in the Argentinean airport. Forget the idiot who thought nothing of stashing a stick of unstable and potentially life cutting dynamite in his bag.

How could an American airline company allow an explosive on it's airplane and bring it into the United States?!

My father, who loves to travel extensively throughout the US, just so happens to use Continental as his first choice airline. Should I be extremely concerned for his safety? You bet. And so should you be concerned with the safety of your loved ones.

Thank God this was not a dirty bomb...

    Get the hint Continental?

    Racial Profiling or Truth?

Much has been said about tolerance towards Muslims. Many of our politicians, who I suppose mean well, have the idea that diplomacy is preferable to outright war against the Islamic terrorists. History, if anything, and if we remember, shows us exactly the opposite of what Carter, Clinton and other Democrats are trying to sell to us.

My old friend and gifted political writer, Jose J. Bernal recently reminded his audience of this:

Mr. Bernal ends his always informative and eye opening article by reminding us that ...it was Abraham Lincoln who stated that if we are fall, America will not be undermined by enemy outside of its borders, but from enemies within them. I hope that his statements do not prove prophetic.

    DC Latino Museum Update

Our friend, Deputy Legislative Director Joel Najar advised The Latino Edge on the progress of HR 2134, the bill introduced by Representatives Xavier Becerra (Ca-31) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18)to study the possibility of the creation of the Latino Cultural Arts Museum in Washington DC. This is what he had to say:

We are making good progress with the bipartisan national Latino museum commission bill (HR 2134), sponsored by Rep. Becerra and Rep. Ros-Lehtinen. As you may recall, this legislation would create an expert commission to study the feasibility of establishing a museum dedicated to portraying the Latino/Hispanic contributions to the art, history, and culture of the United States.

The two House committees in charge of the bill have passed them favorably and it is expected that the bill will come before the full House for a floor vote in September, using a procedure that allows for no amendment and would require a 2/3 majority vote.

In the Senate, Sen. Ken Salazar and Sen. Mel Martinez are seeking more cosponsors for the companion bill (S. 2475) and trying to get a hearing scheduled for early September. We are trying to get the Senate to pass the bill before Congress adjourns for the year in October.

We need help getting more Senate cosponsors, esp. from southwestern states. Sen. Domenici has cosponsored the bill, which is a big boost for it. His press release is below.

Please let your networks know and forward the attached letter so they can forward to their Senators. The current sponsors are: Sen. Bingaman, Sen. Boxer, Sen. Clinton, Sen. Domenici, Sen. Durbin, Sen. Hatch Hutchison, Sen. Kerry, Sen. Lautenberg, Sen. Martinez, Sen. Menendez, Sen. Nelson, Sen. Obama, Sen. Schumer.

More info on the bill is always available here.

    Thanks,

    Joel

White House Charges Americans for War Rescue!

"The State Department said the evacuees will be asked to pay "the going commercial rate for transport out" - about $150, although the amount hasn't been decided yet. If they can't pay up, Uncle Sam wants an IOU. "We are moving as quickly as we can. It's a complex operation that involves an extraordinary level of effort," said Adm. Patrick Walsh."

It appalling that the very same government we pay to protect and serve us charges a fee to save American lives in Lebanon.

Incredibly and beyond reasoning, there are still Americans calling the Bush Administration a "Christian, God fearing" entity. Ha!

Incidentally, to be a "Christian" means to be a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ. Correct me if I am wrong, but I simply don't recall written anywhere in the Bible where Jesus Christ charged for salvation. However, I do know that it says that "the love of money is the root of evil".

I guess the "God fearing" administration were absent the day that lesson was taught in Sunday School... if they ever went at all?

Hispanic Radio Personalities Spearhead Latino Voting Drive

"Two Latino radio hosts credited for mobilizing hundreds of thousands this year in pro-immigrant protests said on Friday they would join the drive to increase the Hispanic and immigrant vote in the 2008 U.S. presidential election."

I believe this powerful voting drive will be successful in derailing the GOP strangle-hold on the US. However, I also believe that the Republican pols themselves will be instrumental in handing over the White House and Capitol Hill to the Democrats.

Why? Because them highly ejumacated vultures perched up on that there Hill are just too darn smart to come in out of the rain. That's why.

    Pride comes before a fall...

Shh! Listen closely for the "splat!"
