The funding cuts amounts to a 40% decrease from last year's $207,000,000 allotted terrorist fighting budget.
Ironically, DHS awarded the State of Georgia a 40% increase to their overall budget.
Speculators say that Georgia's increase can be used to fund hurricane relief if a Katrina-like disaster occurs.
This will be updated as the story unfolds. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Click here for further information.
Critics say that most states that received an increase in their budgets are "red" states held by the GOP such as Nebraska, Georgia and Kentucky. More details here.
Moreover, New York Daily News' journalist, Michael Daly wrote, "Whatever the motivation, the department has issued a bizarre document that cuts our funding by 40%, says there are no icons to protect and slams the Police Department that has taken the lead in the fight against terrorism. The top of the document might as well read Homeland Security to New York: Drop Dead."
Folks, this is just another glaring example of how low the Bush Administration and his GOP cronies are willing to go to secure conservative votes in the coming election: putting the lives of American citizens on the line for selfish purposes.
And if they are willing to this, what else are they capable of doing next?

Where am I going with this? Recently it was revealed that the NSA has been spying on American citizens probably right after 9/11. It was kept a secret from the public. It had also been denied in the past when the question was asked. When revealed otherwise, the government and its spin doctors said it was done for the purposes of "national security". It seems that everything done by the government these days that siphons from our civil rights is done for the purpose of "national security".
They tried to reassure us that our right to privacy is intact and no law has been broken. Of course, they failed to mention that the law that hasn't been broken is the very same law that they created after 9/11 called the Patriot Act.
They said that our personal data, i.e., social security, passwords, bank accounts and such are still protected. They also failed to mention the database they created without the benefit of warrants and with the help of a few leading US corporations.
Keeping this in mind, let us take a virtual trip to the other side of the world. Let us get acquainted with what the US government is trying to do in the European Union?
But before we do that, read this one excerpt:
"It required European airlines to provide the US authorities with 34 pieces of information on each passenger including names, addresses and credit card information, within 15 minutes of a plane taking off. It was opposed by many European MPs as a breach of privacy laws."
And our government says, “Trust us.”
Excuse me while I stop laughing hysterically. It may be awhile.

Bloomberg stated that social security cards can be forged using Photoshop and passed as the real thing. What he failed to mention is that the Federal government has a database of all social security numbers and can tell if one is false by a simple search.
NBC 4 reported today that plans were in the works for a NYC database containing the DNA of city workers, spearheaded by the Mayor.
New York Civil Liberties Union director, Donna Lieberman said the proposal "doesn't sound like the free society we think we're living in. It will inevitably be used not just by employers but by law enforcement, government agencies, schools and all over the private sector."
I concur. The last thing we need is yet another way to siphon off more of our civil rights under the disguise of "national security".

Fox Five news and The Record reported that 110 plants use "extraordinarily hazardous" chemicals that, if exposed to the local wind currents, can be carried as across the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, Pa) critically hurting or killing millions.
Many plant directors said they have repeatedly tried to get funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to beef up their security departments. According to them, they have met with little or no response from the Federal agency in charge of keeping America safe from potential terrorist attacks.
With a little research on Google, The Latino Edge found that several states in the Union also face similar desperate security situations.
"Internal DHS documents also show that a new DHS web cam program is limited to only 17 facilities in seven states: CA, TX, IN, PA, NJ, IL, MI. This $4.2 million government funded project is indicative of the triage approach the DHS has taken to chemical plant security. These documents show that the new DHS universe of plants ignores many states where the EPA has identified over 100 facilities that put a million or more people at risk. These states include PA, OH, FL, WI, MN, WA, AZ, CO, NV, TN, MD."
This is extremely troubling on many fronts. Here we find ourselves combating a supposed national crisis which is pitching millions of US taxpayer dollars to mobilize against a people who never have been involved in any terrorist activity. Illegal immigrants have in fact contributed to our nation's economy. Most of their activities have been a plus for the US.
Yet our borders to the north, our East and West Coasts and now many chemical plants nationwide remain virtually open to terrorist attack. What about security at our nation's various nuclear plants and fuel repositories? Are they adequate?
These issues and not Latino immigrants should be the focus of our national leaders and the American people. These vulnerabilities can bring America indescribable disaster if left unchecked.
This article is not about politics, folks. It is about common sense and our need to get our national priorities straight. We need to stop acting like political sheep and finally tell our government get their act together. It is what we pay them to do, am I right?

Apparently, CEO Scott Silverman has been speaking to high ranking officials in Latin America as well.
...the company has gotten the buy-in from highly placed current and former government officials, including Columbian President Alvaro Uribe. He reportedly told Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) that he would consider having microchips implanted into Colombian workers before they are permitted to enter the United States to work on a seasonal basis.
Silverman went on the Fox News show Fox and Friends First to hard sell the idea to the public. He went on to "argue that the U.S. government should buy tons of his implantable RFID chips and literally inject them into the arms of immigrants who are guest workers in the United States."
If this is adopted by our government, we American citizens are next.

There are many like this fine young man here in America who have dreams of going to school or just working to earn a decent living. Like Bartsch, their only obstacle is that they too are illegal immigrants.
We've heard and read the news about GOP politicians and many American citizens trying to make these people outlaws, placing them in the same league as drug dealers, murderers and child abusers. We've seen vigilante groups assemble in various states to combat this "national crisis".
This is something I noticed. Republican senators in Ohio are trying to keep the young teenager from being deported back to Germany. These are same GOP senators that want to deport millions of hard working Latino illegal immigrants back to Mexico.
I also noticed there are no reports about groups from the Minuteman Project mobbing Bartsch home demanding his deportation. Generally speaking, Bartsch, has received the support of his neighbors.
Why is Bartsch getting preferential treatment from politicians and the general public?
Could it be because Bartsch is a white illegal immigrant?

It really didn't affect me much. I am Latino and back then, at least in my immediate view, I wasn't mistreated. I can't remember hearing any of the derogatory labels that some used to describe a person of Latino heritage. All I knew was how to treat everyone like I would want to be treated. If they screwed it up, they lost my trust. But it was never a question of color; just behavior.
The battle raged on in the 70's with shows like All in the Family, The Jeffersons and my all time favorite, Good Times. All these shows dealt with racial issues in one form or another. Being a Puerto Rican child in NYC, I guess it was a fight between those two groups of people over there. However, those "in between the line" messages were being stored in my young mind. They secretly helped mold my character.
As I became a young man, I moved to Puerto Rico. There I was hit square in the face by prejudice. My own people denied me a job because I spoke English. It was weird and hurtful at the same time. I was one of those people over there and not one of the native islanders. Knowing I would never be allowed to work, I took a jet plane and landed in the South.
Some will argue that Florida isn't really considered the South like Georgia and Alabama. But prejudice is just the same anywhere we find it. It was in Florida where I had my first run in with racism and the Klan. It was the first time racial labels were directed my way. And it was the first time I saw hate in the eyes of people that didn't know me and wanted me dead anyway. Why? Simply because I was darker then they were. I don't feel ashamed to tell you that I cried in anger. How stupid can people be? Hating someone because of a natural pigment called melanin. That, to me, is like hating someone for having toenails or a liver. They didn't know me. They didn't care if I liked all kinds of music, was artistic or that I never stole a thing in my life. They didn't see me a fellow human being. They just saw me as a rabid animal that needed killing.
After eleven years in the South, I moved to the Mid-West. After a while, I began to notice racial prejudice again. None of it was directed at me, mind you. I was Hispanic. According to the racists, we worked hard, unlike those other lazy minorities.
Let me tell you what I saw. I witnessed poor folk with families working their fingers to the bones, in mills, in steel plants, on farms and in department stores. I saw people struggling and sweating to make sure there was food on their tables, and clothes on their backs. They worked hard to pay rent for a two-bedroom shanty that leaked when it rained and was bone cold in the winter. Yet instead of complaining, they thanked God because they had a roof over their heads one more day. Heck, they even thanked God for toilet paper. Listen, if you ever been without toilet paper and had to wipe with pieces of newspaper, you'd be thanking whatever deity you believe in when the real deal came around your way.
Yes, there were a few that were lazy. But they were people of any color who thought that government owed them a living. However, I couldn't see how racist could paint all minorities with broad strokes on account of a few. Sometimes, those broad strokes were deadly. Because of these broad strokes, I saw police practicing racial profiling and other things I rather not say.
I have traveled through many states in my life and I've seen plenty of injustice. I've seen people starving in the Appalachian Mountains. I have been through small towns where the only running water is the creek that passes though it. I've seen children running around dirty and without shoes. I've seen people who have worked 30 years in a factory only to loose their pensions when the company moved overseas. I've seen seen old widows lose their homes because of foreclosure and had to move to the local homeless shelters. It's a shame that happens in a country as rich as ours. But it does.
So, today we have desperate human beings crossing US-Mexican border in hopes of a better life. To them, despite the prejudice and the injustice that exists in here, America is a slice of heaven on earth. These are people that have it even worse than our homeless. There is no opportunity at all where they live. They have nowhere to turn to ask for medicine. They have nowhere to to turn ask for food. They have nowhere to go to ask for jobs. They have nothing but the flies infesting their wounds and the dimmest of hopes.
Now what would you do? What would you be willing to do? Look at your children, your wives and your husbands. What would you be willing to for them. Cross a desert? Cross a river? Put your life on the line for them dodging the bullets shot at you by "concerned citizens" waiting for you at the other side of the border? Would you do if your little girl were crying because her belly is hurting from lack of food? What, pray tell, would you do if your boy was dying and all he needed were 10 dollar antibiotics?
Let me tell you what I would do. I'd do whatever was necessary. Period. And whether or not you admit it, so would you. Just like the pilgrims and just like the scores of other immigrants of old. Just like The Irish who came here during the Potato Famine and like the Italians that came to America to escape Benito Mussolini's fascist dictatorship.
I remember something taught to me in Civics class. It went something like this:
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she with silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!**
What happened America? When did we be become so despicable that we dared toss the welcome mat that welcomed out ancestors? Have we become so full of ourselves that we have forgotten our past? Have we forgotten how to be decent and caring human beings? Have we forgotten about mercy and compassion? Have we become a nation of well-fed savages?
Dear God, I pray not.

I believe it's because the GOP knows it is seriously falling in the polls. They fear they will lose their Congressional seats.
Think about it.
Republicans had all these years to do something about illegal immigrants. What happened? Nothing.
All of the sudden, illegal immigrants are criminalized and possibly viewed worse than Osama and al-Qaeda. By the way, Osama still remains at large and I still have yet to hear reports of terrorists trying to slip into the US pretending to be immigrants.
Out of the blue, we have a national crisis that requires the deployment of the National Guard.
Congress lately feels the need to erect a barrier reminiscent of the Berlin Wall along the southern border for national protection. Funny, I don't feel more protected. Do you?
Congress, if you really want to protect America, what about the Canadian border? What about the East and West coasts? Huh? What? The silence is glaring.
What America is hearing loud and clearly from the Hill is that they really think we are idiots! They think we're blind to their blatant political posturing. No, we're not. Look at the polls.
Here's an idea. Since the immigrants come here to do "jobs Americans won't do" let's close the borders and deport 11 million illegals. Then let's get all those Americans who are on welfare rolls bleeding the system dry, all those who are on unemployment insurance because of outsourcing to other countries, and make them do the jobs that they refuse to do.
What? We can't do that? Why not? Oh I see. They might vote you out of Congress.
We can't have that now, can we?

Before 2000, former Vice President Gore had the reputation of a dedicated, if somewhat dull, public servant. During 2000, he was treated as some sort of freaked out maniac. For example, his critique of the impending Iraq War was brutalized as some sort of bizarre bombast.
He has since been proven 100% right.
Was he ardent in his speeches? Of course he was. He cared. At the time, Congress, the mainstream media and most of America had its collective head in the sand while the country marched into disaster. The substance of his speeches was entirely rational.
In hindsight, most people now agree with Al Gore and wish they never heard or seen the name of G.W. Bush.
Incidentally, have any newspapers or talking heads apologized? No.
Everything he said about the Iraq War was entirely true. Actually, the War has turned out worse than he predicted. Not even the war's harshest critics predicted Abu Ghraib.
Gore’s critics may say the abovementioned is pure baloney. But let me ask this:
Are you honestly telling me that if people are continuously hearing that a candidate is a nut job and a liar, it's not going to affect how some people vote? Please spare me the rhetoric.
I believe Al Gore would make a fine president. We have seen where the Bush Administration has taken the American people. It’s time for rational and sound minds to prevail in the White House.

Unarmed? I am not worried about our troops getting fired upon by illegal immigrants as much as they could get shot by the "friendly fire" of the armed to the teeth vigilante groups already there. What Bush needs to do is get rid of these racist wannabe Keystone Cops vigilante groups instead of ignoring them. Let the professionals who have been properly trained do their jobs and order these filthy gutter rats to goose-step back to the outhouses from which they came.
The rotation schedule Bush proposed required a total of 156,000 troops from an already overextended National Guard. Let's pray that hurricane season is not as bad as scientists say it's going to be this year. Pray tell, where are we going to muster troops if another Katrina hits this year? What about forrest fires? What about any other national natural disaster? Are we prepared to handle those events as well? If last year's Katrina debacle was any indication of our Federal government's readiness, God help us.
This is not border security. This is merely political favor disguised as national interest. What nauseates me is the extent that politicians are willing to go and who they are willing to placate to secure their congressional seats and hefty paychecks!

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is a little known Federally funded department, whose sole purpose is to gather images on any place on earth using satellites in space.
However, since Hurricane Rita and Katrina, the NGA has trained its spy satellites on American soil. According to the director of the NGA, retired Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper, he "is proud of that domestic mission". According to this article, the NGA has helped America from locating property in hurricane battered Louisiana to enhancing security in previous Super Bowl games from terrorist attacks by using cutting edge imagery that is taken from high above the atmosphere.

The NY Daily News has reported that ...after Bush was elected, Cuban exile and pop vocalist Jon Secada also sang the "The Star-Spangled Banner" in both English and Spanish at the 2001 opening ceremony of the presidential inaugural...
"... When visiting cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, or Philadelphia, in pivotal states, he would drop in at Hispanic festivals and parties, sometimes joining in singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in Spanish, sometimes partying with a "Viva Bush" mariachi band flown in from Texas. ..."
